I was sitting side-by-side on a bench with Darwin Shaw at the Meher Baba Centre in Myrtle Beach, mostly just in silent communion, sometime in the 1980s or early 1990s.
Out of the blue, Darwin remarked to me “I feel that Francis had been Socrates”.
We went on to chat about Francis’s extraordinary intellect and deep learning. Baba himself had commented with apparent surprise at the depth of Francis’s knowledge.
Don Stevens commented (on video) that next to Eruch, Francis had the most extensive collection of spiritual stories that he (Don) had ever encountered, and that Francis was so generous in sharing those stories. This anecdote comes from Don’s time with Francis in Fairfax, California in 1946-7.
